Manchester United and Spain international shot stopper David de Gea will stay at Old Trafford if United meet his wage demand.
This is according to ESPN pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
The Los Blancos came close to signing the 27-year old goalie in the summer of 2015 but a faulty fax machine stops the move from going through.
The Spanish club have refused to give up on de Gea signature as they have repeatedly been linked with the Spaniard.
As summer transfer window draws closer, Madrid has made de Gea one of their prime targets.
The Santiago0 Bernabeu club wants de Gea to replace Keylor Navas – who is not highly rated by Madrid chiefs.
However, United are not willing to lose the £200,000-A-Week star to Madrid at any cost and would do everything within their power to make him sign a new contract.
And Shaka Hislop reason de Gea will remain at Old Trafford if Jose Mourinho’s side decides to increase his weekly wages.
“Yeah, absolutely right (De Gea will stay),” he said.
“He’s that important to Manchester United. If you are United, you pay him whatever he’s asking for. End of story.”
The former Atletico Madrid goalie has been on a scintillating form for the Red Devils this season with a 19 clean sheet.
United takes on Chelsea at Old Trafford in a Premier League game on Sunday and the Spaniard will be hoping to keep another clean sheet.
