Former-Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is being linked with a shock return to Old Trafford after falling out of favour at Juventus.
The 35-year-old enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the Red Devils, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his eight years at the club.
Evra was a hugely popular figure at United before opting to move to Juventus where he has won two Serie A titles.
However, the Frenchman’s time in Turin looks to be coming to an end after he was left out of the Juventus squad for the clash against Bologna.
Bianconeri director Beppe Marotta has explained the defender is currently weighing up his options and could move in January.
“Evra is still with us. He was not called up by mutual agreement, as he is considering his future,” he said according to The Guardian.
“It’s only right he’s taking a moment to reflect, as his contract will expire in June, he is 35 years old going towards 36. We’ll see next week.”
Evra has been linked with a return to United in a coaching capacity which could well be a smart move with the full-back set to turn 36 next year.
Although Evra has not retired from football United have plenty of options at full-back currently with Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian while Evra may now struggle with the sheer pace of the Premier League.
However, the return of the Frenchman would be a hugely popular move amongst supporters who would love to see their former favourite back at Old Trafford.
Evra would also have plenty to offer in a coaching role and he could have a huge impact on the young players, in particular Luke Shaw.
The youngster had appeared to be the club’s left-back of the future but has struggled for game time after recovering from his horrific leg break with Jose Mourinho believed to be keen to ease him back slowly.
Evra would certainly be the perfect option to mentor Shaw while his winning mentality and huge experience of the Premier League and Champions League could also help the entire squad, in particular youngsters such as the aforementioned Shaw and Marcus Rashford.
The defender is a bubbly, infectious character and a great personality to have around the club, as his frequent exploits on social media show.
The Juventus defender is also known to have a great relationship with Paul Pogba who is starting to flourish at Old Trafford and could help out compatriot Anthony Martial who is having a difficult second season at the club after finishing as the club’s top scorer last time out.
