Man City 2-3 Man Utd: Player Ratings

Manchester United came from 0-2 down in the first half to deny Manchester City the Premier League title in the derby with a stunning 3-2 comeback win.  This despite Manchester City being the odds-on favourites heading into the game with sport.netbet.co.uk.

Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan had given Pep Guardiola’s side a cruising lead in the first half in which they needed three points at the Etihad in order to win the Premier League crown in record time.

However, Manchester United had other ideas as Paul Pogba scored twice in less than two minutes in the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Chris Smalling volleyed home an Alexis Sanchez free kick to seal the victory.

Here are how our players fared:

David de Gea 7 – Didn’t have a chance with either of City’s goals but producing a stunning save to deny Sergio Aguero an 89th minute equaliser.  A draw would have allowed Manchester City the opportunity to win the Premier League title at Wembley Stadium next weekend but defeat prevents them from doing so.

Antonio Valencia 6 – The second goal came from a move down our captain’s side but Antonio Valencia was stronger in the second half as Leroy Sane was kept quiet.

Eric Bailly 5 – The centre defence was all over the place in the first half and lucky not to be four down at the break as Raheem Sterling missed two one-on-one’s towards the end of the first half.

Chris Smalling 6 – Lost Vincent Kompany from a corner for the opening goal and was lost at sea in the first half.  However, Chris Smalling did score the winner in the derby.

Ashley Young 4 – Struggled badly down the left up against Raheem Sterling.  Fortunate to get away with a handball on his own six-yard box inside the opening five minutes, somehow got away with a blatant foul on Sterling shortly after and then fortunate not to concede a penalty in the final quarter-of-an-hour.

Nemanja Matic 5 – Our midfield were outplayed in the first half and Nemanja Matic was particularly lazy in his attempts to prevent Ilkay Gundogan doubling City’s lead.  However, we rapidly improved in the second half.

Ander Herrera 7 – Another gutsy effort from the Spaniard who threw himself into tackles and helped maintain possession for us when we had it.  Excellent assist for our opening goal.

Paul Pogba 9 – Anonymous first half but ignited our comeback in the second half, first with a fine finish after Herrera had chested him through, and the second showing more determination than Nicolas Otamendi to get onto Alexis Sanchez’s cross from deep.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Offered very little down the right wing.

Romelu Lukaku 5 – Barely touched the ball and didn’t have a single effort on goal.

Alexis Sanchez 9 – Huge involvement in all three goals, including the assists for the last two.  We could not have won this game without Alexis Sanchez today.
