Jose Mourinho has express his delight in talented and promising England star Angel Gomes who signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils on Wednesday.
The Portuguese tactician gave the England Under-18 star his first senior team debut at age 16 last season, when the attacking midfielder was brought in to replace former player Wayne Rooney in a 2-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace.
Gomes has been a key player for England junior team having captained the Under-16, 17 and 18 levels. He also led the Young Lions to victory at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup title this year at India.
Speaking to United official website, United youth team coach Nicky Butt and first team manager Jose Mourinho praised the midfielder for his development so far.
“Angel has gone from strength to strength in his development and we are all pleased that he has signed his professional contract with Manchester United. He is still young and has a good attitude for learning; coupled with his natural talent, we can see that Angel has a very bright future.” Said the Youth team coach Butt.
“I am delighted that Angel has signed his first professional contact with the club. I gave him his first-team debut at the end of last season which made him not only the youngest Manchester United player to play in the Premier League era but also the youngest player to represent Manchester United since Duncan Edward in 1953.” Mourinho added.
The Red Devils had a slim 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in Premier League game yesterday and they will take on West Brom this weekend.
Who knows Gomes could make a surprise appearance for United match day squad against the Baggies this Weekend.
