Argentina and Barcelona midfield maestro Lionel Messi has insinuated that Manchester United is not good enough to win the UEFA Champions League this season.
The sensational player snubs the Premier League giants by failing to name them among the top teams to fight for the major title this season
Barcelona are among the favourite club to win the major trophy by pundits after easing their way to the top of group D table with 11 points.
Messi, who recently extended his contract with the La Liga club till 2011 has been on a fine form this season.
He has found the back of the net 16 times in 21 appearances this season while also guiding his team to the La Liga top table with 35 points after 13 matches.
United on the other hand have won four of their five group matches and are all but sure to be in the pot for the knockout stage draw.
The English giants are second on the Premier League table with eight points behind league leader Manchester City.
The five times FIFA World Best player thinks Manchester City, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich represent their hardest tests.
“Man City have been one of the strongest teams so far this season together with PSG,” The Argentine told German Magazine Kicker.
“But the season is still young; I would never discount Real Madrid because of their class and experience, even though they aren’t picking up the expected results at the moment.
“Nor Bayern Munich – Bayern are the other big team that will be ready come the end of the season”
The European competition returns next week as United takes on CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford while Barcelona play host to Sporting.
