According to Italian media reports, Premier League side Manchester United are weighing up a move to land Juventus star Mehdi Benatia to solve their crisis in defense under Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho.
The Daily Mirror quoted a report via Tuttosport that claims the Red Devils remain keen on African star despite having been connected with the defender previously.
The same report suggest that the 20-time champions are seeking to sign a “ball-playing” central defender to address their defensive problems.
As per the same report, the Red Devils view the 31-year-old defender as a cheaper option to the manager’s favoured centre-half acquisition, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
There can be few argument that United require defensive signings after a hesitant Premier League start at the back this season.
The Red Devils have already let slip 18 goals in 11 League matches, while United have only managed a victory in their opening three UEFA Champions League matches.
United head coach Jose Mourinho has spent over £60million on central defenders since he took charge as head coach of the Old Trafford club from Dutch tactician Louis van Gaal last summer.
Ivorian defender Eric Bailly proved a major hit in his debut campaign at Old Trafford but has heavily struggled over the past 2-years to raise several questions marks about his United future.
The Premier League giant will lock horns with Moroccoan international Benetia and Serie A champions Juventus in their next UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday when Jose’s men look to come out victorious in their third successive visit to Turin.
